Internal bleaching is performed on anterior teeth that are internally discoloured because of damage to the pulp tissue or because of a previous root canal procedure. Unlike external bleaching, which whitens teeth from the outside in, internal bleaching whitens teeth from the inside out. Bleaching the tooth internally involves using an oxidising agent that is placed inside the tooth crown or pulp chamber after satisfactorily sealing the root canal space. The oxidising agent is sealed within the tooth over a period of several days and replaced as needed until the required shade or colour is achieved.
